On June 19, Bulgaria Mall, in partnership with the National Centre for Transfusion Hematology, will host a blood donation campaign under the motto “Become a Superhero – Give Someone a Chance at Life”.
The campaign will take place from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM in a dedicated area on Level +1, next to Sinsay, and aims to encourage voluntary blood donation – one of the most meaningful ways to support people in need.
Donated blood is essential for patients undergoing surgeries, trauma treatment, burn care, cancer therapies, and many other medical procedures. Despite advances in medicine, blood cannot be manufactured artificially and relies entirely on voluntary donors.
Who can donate blood?
Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 65 may be eligible to donate blood following a medical assessment.
Donors are advised not to arrive on an empty stomach and should maintain a balanced diet in the days leading up to the donation. If you have a tattoo, at least six months must have passed since it was done. You should also be in good health and not taking medication at the time of donation.
What does the process involve?
The procedure includes completing a health questionnaire, a brief medical consultation, and a small blood sample to determine blood type and haemoglobin levels.
The blood donation itself takes only a few minutes, while the entire process generally lasts between 20 and 30 minutes.
All materials used during the procedure are sterile, individually packaged, and intended for single use only.
Beneficial for both patients and donors
The volume of donated blood is typically restored within approximately 24 hours, while the body gradually replenishes blood cells over the following weeks.
In accordance with Bulgarian legislation, blood donors are entitled to two days of paid leave and receive a complimentary snack after donation.
